Ile Bizard, QC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Daniel Im fired an eight-under 63 on
Thursday to take the first-round lead of the Montreal Open at The Champions
Course at Saint-Raphael Golf Club.
George Bradford is alone in second place at six-under 65.
Ryan Thornberry, Lee Williamson and Rob Oppenheim share third place at five-
under 66.
Im started on the 10th tee Thursday and easily broke into red figures at his
first. He hit a nine-iron from 140 yards that took a few hops and rolled in
for an eagle.
"That kind of set the tone for the day," said Im, who is third on the Canadian
Tour Order of Merit. "When I birdied 12 and then eagled 13, I was feeling
pretty good."
He made the turn in 30. Im birdied three in a row from the third and birdied
No. 8, and suddenly the course record appeared to be in jeopardy.
That was until Im hit a poor approach from the fairway at nine. He could only
manage to get his third to 15 feet and missed the par-saving putt.
"It was a little disappointing to finish that way," acknowledged Im, a two-
time winner this year, his rookie season. "This is a great golf course and
with all the tents and the crowd, it feels like a PGA Tour event. I just want
to go out and do tomorrow what I did today."
Derek Gillespie, Kris Wasylowich, Liam Kendregan and Clayton Rask are tied for
sixth place at minus-four.
Defending champion Brent Schwarzrock shot an even-par 71 and is tied for 58th.
